August 14; An old-fashioned Ice Cream Social and Pie in the Park ...
...will be held in the park in historic Bishop Hill, IL, on Saturday August 14, 2010 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Home made pies and ice cream will be served in the park. The ice cream is provided by the Bishop Hill Colony Bakery.

The event is sponsored by Bishop Hill Heritage Association Board members. The BHHA was formed in 1962 after the loss of one of the Colony’s buildings. Its purpose is to assist in the restoration of as many Colony buildings as possible and to preserve the Colony’s heritage. Thousands of visitors come to Bishop Hill yearly to experience life in days gone by as lived by the original Swedish immigrants. Members of the BHHA keep the 164-year-old Colony alive and thriving; BHHA funds support the care of the Steeple Building museum, Colony Store, Blacksmith Shop, Dairy Building and the Cobbler Shop.

The Pie in the Park and Ice Cream Social is held in conjunction with the 4th Annual Bishop Hill Clay and Fiber Fest hosted by the Prairie Arts Center on both Saturday and Sunday. The festival provides the public with an opportunity to see clay and fiber projects made from start to finish. The public is encouraged to participate in both clay and fiber arts.

August 14 & 15 Clay and Fiber Festival 2010 in Bishop Hill...
...Preparations are well underway for the fourth annual Bishop Hill Clay and Fiber Festival 2010. The event has something for every one of all ages. Watch ceramic artists demonstrate the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel. Also, see them fire a variety of kilns such as raku, primitive pit and horse hair. Potters will also have wares for sale.

In addition to pottery, see a wide variety of fiber artists demonstrate in the Bishop Hill Park. There will also be make and take weaving and felting projects.

Also while in the park be sure to enjoy pie and ice cream sponsored by the Bishop Hill Heritage Association.

One of the highlights of the event is the annual soup supper. Purchase a bowl of homemade soup and keep the original handmade bowl. Tickets are just $10.00 and can be purchased at the Prairie Arts Center in the Historic Blacksmith Shop. The sell out dinner benefits the Bishop Hill Arts Council and The Bishop Hill Heritage Association. Money will go toward education in the arts in Bishop Hill.

In addition to many area business sponsorships, Shimpo Ceramics and Great Lakes Clay will be on hand this year offering corporate sponsorship.
